In the Hindu religion, the river Ganges or Ganga is considered holy and is treated like a mother. Ganga Dussehra is a Hindu festival observed on Dashami Tithi or the tenth day of Shukla Paksha (waxing phase of the Moon) of Jyestha month.
Ganga Dussehra is dedicated to Goddess Ganga and is celebrated by performing several rites and rituals of Ganga puja according to the Hindu calendar. In Hinduism, no religious ritual is considered to be performed without Ganga water. Ganga Dussehra is also known as Gangavataran, which means ‘the descent of the Ganga’.
